Open Studio F.A.Q.

  • Do we need a reservation?

    • No!  You are welcome to drop in at anytime. The studio does NOT take reservations - first come first doodle!

  • Is there a fee?

    • All painting artists will be charged a "sitting fee."  This is and ALL DAY FEE and covers paints, supplies, glazes, and kiln firing.

      • Tots (ages 5 and under) - $4

      • Youth (ages 6-17) - $6

      • Adult ( ages 18+) - $8

  • How much do projects cost?

    • In addition to the studio fee, artists will pay for projects.  Projects are priced by size and complexity - both canvases and pottery projects start at $10 and increase based on size.

  • What age is appropriate for Open Studio?

    • We welcome artists of any age during Open Studio.

      • Doodlers younger than 2 are the perfect age for hand or footprint art.

      • Doodlers ages 3-5 are the perfect age for a canvas painting with a stencil - we have many to choose from. However, experimenting with pottery painting is always fun!

      • Doodlers ages 6 and older have the option of canvas painting, mixed media projects (paper mache letters, frames, and boxes), and paint your own pottery.  Our staff can suggest appropriate projects for age and ability.

  • Will someone help us with our art?

    • Of course!  Our staff will be happy to assist you during Open Studio.  We will help you get started with your projects - sketching out your canvas (if desired), helping to choose glazes, and with any questions you may have.  We are happy to help with suggestions during the project - however, our staff is not available to offer step-by-step instruction during Open Studio.  If you would like step-by-step instruction, we suggest signing up for a class or workshop.

  • Are we able to bring snacks or food into Open Studio?

    • No, we do not allow food in Open Studio.  You are welcome to bring drinks.

      • If you are interested in a celebration (with food and a private room) - we can host events with 5 or more artists. Click here for our Private Event Options!

      • There are picnic tables at the end of our building, which are available to all our artists to use for a break!

  • May I drop my child off at Open Studio?

    • NO!  All children under 16 years of age must have adult supervision at the studio.

Open Studio Policies

  • Artists must start projects at least one hour before close.

  • If you have a group of more than 10 artists (10 painting artists) - please call the studio to schedule a private event.

  • All projects completed at Dots and Doodles must be sourced by the studio.  We do not accept outside pottery or canvases.

  • By painting at Dots and Doodles, you agree to the following statement:

    • Art making is not an exact process.  We do our best to provide consistent and high quality experiences, service, and supplies.  Unfortunately, some art making processes are out of our control.  We will do our best to remedy any issues you may occur but DO NOT take responsibility for accidents that may happen during painting or kiln firing. If you have an extreme issue with a finished piece please reach out to laura@dotsanddoodlesart.com.

  • Canvas Painting

    • If canvas paintings or mixed media projects are unfinished they must be taken home and we welcome artists to bring them back to finish.

    • If artists with unfinished pottery or paintings return to the studio within 24 hours - the studio fee will be waived.

  • Pottery

    • We will text (the phone number given at the time of order) when pottery is finished. The turn around time for pottery is 10 -14 days.

    • The studio is not responsible for fired or unfinished/unfired pottery once it leaves the studio.

    • Unfinished pieces will be kept for 7 days.  After that time they will be glazed and fired as is and customers will be notified.

    • Finished pieces will be kept for 45 days (after texting).  After that period of time they will be upcycled.

    • Painting and firing pottery is a creative process with multiple variables.
